Aretha was always hesitant in giving female performers their due credit. A few concerts earlier she just said - one of the greatest singers, then she said one of the best "young" singers, then she said "one of the best, if not the best, young singers and performers, then in an interview she just toned it down to " Talent, definitely a talent" The truth is, the music composers, producers and vocalists who worked with both in the 80's, knew Whitney could outsing Aretha, and she didn't quite like it. And that's just the truth. (Read Narada Michael Walden's book) They're both up there and equal I think - with Whitney slightly excelling Franklin when it comes to - versatility.

Her playing the piano is just plain awful . I fully understand why many see her voice as great but at times she sounds like she’s screaming not singing . Compare Sarah Brightman,Susan Boyle… many others far more enjoyable.
